Sinaca A. Times was charged with 11 felonies Friday in connection with the slaying Thursday of Ricky R. Narvaiz at Baytown apartments in Bay City.
Times faces an open charge of murder and charges of felony murder during a robbery, assault with the intent to murder, home invasion, armed robbery and six felony gun charges.
Times, 22, is accused of robbing Narvaiz around 4:30 a.m. Thursday while he was in the residence of Tasha M. Lopez, 1202 N. Jackson St.
The suspect also is charged with the attempted murder of Kwame Matthews, who police describe as a witness.
Times told Bay County District Judge Timothy J. Kelly he has lived at 816 S. Grant St. in Bay City on and off for four months. He said he originally is from Saginaw.
Witnesses told police that Times entered Lopez's residence early Thursday morning and robbed Narvaiz.
Before leaving he was confronted by Matthews, who said he began to fight with Times. Matthews stopped scuffling when the suspect claimed to be a friend of his.
According to police reports, Narvaiz came downstairs in his boxer shorts and told Matthews that Times just robbed him. Matthews chased the man outside and threw the suspect's bicycle at him, before Times allegedly fired off two or three shots - one which fatally wounded Narvaiz in the chest.
Narvaiz, 21, of Bay City, was pronounced dead at Bay Regional Medical at 5:19 a.m. Thursday.
Kelly denied bond for Times at the request of Bay County Prosecutor Joseph K. Sheeran. He will be appointed a public defender by the court.
"These are very serious charges," Kelly said. "This is as serious as it gets."
Sheeran told the court Times had a case pending in District Court for fleeing and eluding police.
Kelly set a preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 4 before District Judge Scott J. Newcombe.
Times was known on the street by the names of "Li'l Murder," "Li'l 'Twan" and "Li'l Tank," according to police records.
All three rows of the courtroom were filled, and there were people standing by the door in a show of support for Narvaiz.
Xzadrian Hardwick was one of a handful of Narvaiz's friends in the courtroom who wore T-shirts with a picture of Narvaiz that read "In loving memory of Ricky R. Narvaiz."
Hardwick, 19, and from Bay City, said he knew Narvaiz his whole life.
"I wanted to see the dude," he said of Times. "I want to see what he gets for doing such a stupid thing."
